{"id":176325,"date":"2020-07-12T20:21:00","date_gmt":"2020-07-13T01:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/07\/12\/police-lying-again\/"},"modified":"2020-07-12T20:21:00","modified_gmt":"2020-07-13T01:21:00","slug":"police-lying-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/07\/12\/police-lying-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Police Lying Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>In news that should surprise no one, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/07\/08\/nypds-own-stats-debunk-claims-about-bail-reform-link-to-shootings\/\">the New York Police Department&#8217;s claims about the effect of bail reform on crime are completely contradicted by their own data<\/a>:<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">State bail reform and coronavirus-related releases from city jails are not driving this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/07\/06\/nyc-shootings-tripled-last-week-when-compared-to-2019-numbers\/\">surge in shootings<\/a>, the NYPD\u2019s own data shows \u2014 despite the insistence of department brass to the contrary. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s bail reform. It\u2019s COVID.
