{"id":176363,"date":"2020-07-03T18:40:00","date_gmt":"2020-07-03T23:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/07\/03\/rinse-lather-repeat\/"},"modified":"2020-07-03T18:40:00","modified_gmt":"2020-07-03T23:40:00","slug":"rinse-lather-repeat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/07\/03\/rinse-lather-repeat\/","title":{"rendered":"Rinse, Lather, Repeat"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Once again, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/facebook-admits-to-sharing-users-personal-data-with-third-party-apps-yet-again\">Facebook is offering insincere apologies about improperly sharing its users data<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p>Some things never change:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Facebook has admitted that it wrongly shared the personal data of \u2018inactive\u2019 users for longer than it was authorized to, as <a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2020\/07\/improving-data-limits-simplifying-terms\/\">revealed in a blog post from the company<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The social media giant estimates the error saw around 5,000 third-party app developers continue to receive information about users who had previously used Facebook to sign into their apps, even if users hadn\u2019t used the app in the past 90 days.<\/p>\n<p>Exceeding that time frame goes against Facebook\u2019s policy, which promises third-party apps would no longer be able to receive personal information about a user if they had not accessed the app within the last 90 days.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026 <\/p>\n<p>The 90-day limit was introduced as part of Facebook\u2019s overhaul of its privacy settings, following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/us-uk-investigating-facebooks-role-in-cambridge-analytica-data-breach\">Cambridge Analytica scandal in 2018<\/a> which saw an estimated 87 million users have their personal data harvested by the now defunct political consulting firm without consent.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is something that happens with Facebook on a <b>VERY<\/b> regular basis.<\/p>\n<p>This is not an error, it is deliberate policy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once again, Facebook is offering insincere apologies about improperly sharing its users data.
