{"id":176415,"date":"2020-06-22T18:31:00","date_gmt":"2020-06-22T23:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/06\/22\/slaughterhouses-again\/"},"modified":"2020-06-22T18:31:00","modified_gmt":"2020-06-22T23:31:00","slug":"slaughterhouses-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/06\/22\/slaughterhouses-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Slaughterhouses, AGAIN!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"border: 1px solid black; float: right; margin: 0px 10px; padding: 5px; text-align: center; width: 360px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/JDUjLPX.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" bordercolor=\"white\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/JDUjLPX.png\" width=\"350\" \/><\/a><br \/><i>Not good<\/i><\/div>\n<p>In Germany there has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-health-coronavirus-meat-toennies-idUSKBN23R0Q5\">a major Covid-19 outbreak at an abattoir<\/a>, (I love the word, &#8220;Abattoir.&#8221; I need to use it more often) with over a thousand cases linked to the meat processing plant.<\/p>\n<p>This has taken the R-Number,&nbsp; the infection rate of an epidemic, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2020\/jun\/22\/meat-plant-must-be-held-to-account-covid-19-outbreak-germany\">about .75 to 2.88<\/a>, meaning that infections are growing again, not shrinking: (Any number over 1 indicates an increase in the number of cases)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">The owners of Europe\u2019s largest meat-processing plant must be held to account for a mass coronavirus outbreak that has infected more than 1,500 of its workers, Germany\u2019s labour minister has said. <\/p>\n<p>Hubertus Heil said an entire region had been \u201ctaken hostage\u201d by the factory\u2019s failure to protect its employees, most of whom come from Romania and Bulgaria. <\/p>\n<p>Germany\u2019s coronavirus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2020\/apr\/30\/what-does-the-r-number-of-coronavirus-actually-signify\">reproduction or <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2020\/apr\/30\/what-does-the-r-number-of-coronavirus-actually-signify\">R<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2020\/apr\/30\/what-does-the-r-number-of-coronavirus-actually-signify\"> rate<\/a> leapt to 2.88 over the weekend largely as a result of the outbreak at the plant at G\u00fctersloh in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). About 7,000 people have been sent into quarantine as a result of the outbreak, and schools and kindergartens in the region that had been gradually reopened have been forced to close until at least after the summer holidays. <\/p>\n<p>Health authorities have accused T\u00f6nnies, the family-run business that owns the plant, of breaking regulations around physical distancing that were introduced to dampen the spread of coronavirus. Authorities say T\u00f6nnies has also been reluctant to give them access to workers\u2019 contact details, allegedly hampering the tracking and tracing of the workers and their contacts. T\u00f6nnies said delays in handing over personnel data had been due to Germany\u2019s strict data protection laws. <\/p>\n<p>Clemens T\u00f6nnies, the company\u2019s billionaire CEO, held a press briefing at the weekend at which he apologised for his company\u2019s management of the crisis, and said it would take \u201cfull responsibility\u201d for what had to be done to combat it. Within his own family there have also reportedly been attempts to oust him from his role.
