{"id":176435,"date":"2020-06-17T18:46:00","date_gmt":"2020-06-17T23:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/06\/17\/karen-of-the-day\/"},"modified":"2020-06-17T18:46:00","modified_gmt":"2020-06-17T23:46:00","slug":"karen-of-the-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/06\/17\/karen-of-the-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Karen of the Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A policewoman in Georgia, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/this-tearful-video-of-a-georgia-police-officer-accusing-mcdonalds-of-withholding-her-egg-mcmuffin-order-on-purpose-has-gone-viral-2020-06-17\">completely lost her sh%$ because she had to wait a few minutes to get her Egg McMuffin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And this woman has a badge, a gun, and power to arrest people.<\/p>\n<p>Protect and serve, protect and serve:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\"> There\u2019s not much sympathy online for this cop crying over an Egg McMuffin. <\/p>\n<p>A tearful video of a Georgia police officer accusing a McDonald\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/investing\/stock\/MCD?mod=MW_story_quote\">MCD, +0.24%<\/a> of withholding her breakfast order went viral on Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/investing\/stock\/TWTR?mod=MW_story_quote\">TWTR, -0.83%<\/a> on Wednesday, leading the local owners of the burger joint to apologize to the officer and clarify to MarketWatch that she \u201cwas never denied service.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>A Twitter user who calls herself \u201cAnn\u201d and identifies as a conservative Trump supporter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tkag2020_ann\">in her profile<\/a> posted the clip of an officer she says is named \u201cStacey\u201d who sobs while recounting how the restaurant workers kept her waiting and withheld part of her breakfast order. Stacey suggests this was done on purpose as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/death-of-rayshard-brooks-in-atlanta-and-two-recent-deaths-of-black-men-by-hanging-in-california-lead-to-new-protest-wave-2020-06-14?mod=article_inline\">growing backlash against officers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/john-oliver-explains-defund-the-police-and-why-it-doesnt-mean-no-police-2020-06-08?mod=article_inline\">the calls for police reform<\/a> in the weeks since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/beyonce-joins-call-for-louisville-officers-to-be-charged-in-breonna-taylors-death-2020-06-14?mod=article_inline\">Breonna Taylor<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/george-floyd-laid-to-rest-in-houston-he-is-going-to-change-the-world-brother-says-2020-06-09?mod=article_inline\">George Floyd<\/a> were killed during their encounters with law enforcement. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cStacey who has been a cop for 15 yrs went to @McDonalds,\u201d Ann writes in her post. \u201cShe paid for it in advance and this is how she gets treated for being a cop.\u201d MarketWatch reached out to Ann to verify the authenticity and origins of the video, but she did not respond by press time. But the local McDonald\u2019s owner\/operators confirmed the incident to MarketWatch. <\/p>\n<p>Ann\u2019s post had already been viewed 4.5 million times and retweeted more than 50,000 times by the time this story posted, renewing a heated online debate about the relationship between police officers and the communities they serve. <\/p>\n<p>The clip, which runs just under two-and-a-half minutes, features Stacey explaining that she placed a mobile order for an Egg McMuffin meal. But her order wasn\u2019t ready when she went to pick it up. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I\u2019m waiting. And I\u2019m waiting. And I\u2019m waiting,\u201d she says, noting that she was hungry because she had not eaten for a very long time. She was told to pull over to the side, and an employee eventually came over and gave her a coffee. But Stacey\u2019s order was supposed to include an Egg McMuffin and a hash brown, as well. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s all she hands me is the coffee,\u201d Stacey says, breaking down into tears. \u201cI said, \u2018Don\u2019t bother with the food because right now I\u2019m too nervous to take it!\u2019 It doesn\u2019t matter how many hours I\u2019ve been up. It doesn\u2019t matter what I\u2019ve done for anyone. Right now, I\u2019m too nervous to take a meal from McDonald\u2019s because I can\u2019t see it being made!\u201d <\/p>\n<p>She pleaded with people watching the video to, \u201cPlease, just give us a break.
