It also provides more than 13,000 manuals from hundreds of medical device manufacturers. <\/p>\n<p>Wiens says the effort began with a crowdsourcing campaign to collect repair information for hospital equipment, with a focus on \u201cventilator documentation, anesthesia systems, and respiratory analyzers \u2014 devices widely used to support COVID-19 patients.\u201d But the effort grew from there, spanning more than two months as <i>iFixit<\/i> added dozens more staff members to the project; began talking to more biomedical technicians, doctors, and nurses about their day-to-day needs; and started collecting and cataloging information from libraries and other sources. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHospitals are having trouble getting service information to fix medical equipment \u2014 and it\u2019s not just a COVID-19 problem. We\u2019ve heard countless stories from biomedical technicians (biomeds, for short) about how medical device manufacturers make their jobs more difficult by restricting access to repair information,\u201d Wiens writes in <a href=\"https:\/\/go.redirectingat.com\/?id=66960X1514734&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ifixit.com%2FNews%2F41440%2Fintroducing-the-worlds-largest-medical-repair-database-free-for-everyone&amp;referrer=theverge.com&amp;sref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theverge.com%2F2020%2F5%2F19%2F21263762%2Fifixit-medical-device-repair-database-launch\"><i>iFixit<\/i>\u2019s blog post about the new database<\/a>. \u201cThanks to travel limitations, the problem is bigger than ever. Manufacturer service reps can\u2019t keep pace with the growing demand for repair of critical hospital equipment.
