Since mid-March, about 13% of the labor force has sought jobless assistance, far outpacing any prior four-week stretch on record. Last week\u2019s total decreased from figures that approached 7 million in the prior two weeks, suggesting the wave of workers filing for benefits has passed its peak.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cClaims are now falling, having peaked\u2026two weeks ago,\u201d said Ian Shepherdson, economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics. \u201cBut the weekly level is still almost unfathomably high.\u201d He said Google search data for \u201cfile for unemployment\u201d suggests claims will fall again this week.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Jobless claims are applications by laid-off workers for unemployment-insurance payments\u2014not all of which are approved.
