{"id":176800,"date":"2020-03-18T19:06:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-19T00:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/03\/18\/great-googly-moogly-3\/"},"modified":"2020-03-18T19:06:00","modified_gmt":"2020-03-19T00:06:00","slug":"great-googly-moogly-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/03\/18\/great-googly-moogly-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Great Googly Moogly"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>According to a poll, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/story\/2020-03-17\/coronavirus-layoffs-work-hours-jobs\">18% of US workers have either lost their jobs or hours<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p>This has been over the past 2 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>This is a collapse that is unprecedented since at least the end of World War II:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">As fallout from the coronavirus pandemic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/story\/2020-03-16\/us-economic-recession-coronavirus-ucla-anderson-forecast\">hits the economy<\/a>, it\u2019s slamming the American workforce: Some 18% of adults reported that they had been laid off or that their work hours had been cut, a new poll found.<\/p>\n<p>The proportion affected grew for lower-income households, with 25% of those making less than $50,000 a year reporting that they had been let go or had their hours reduced, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/NPR_PBS-NewsHour_Marist-Poll_USA-NOS-and-Tables_2003151338.pdf#page=3\">a survey<\/a> released Tuesday by NPR, PBS NewsHour and Marist of 835 working adults in the contiguous United States.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s no surprise that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news10.com\/news\/stock-trading-halted-again-as-sp-500-drops-7\/\">NYSE triggered the circuit breakers again<\/a>, for the 3rd time in less than 2 weeks. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to a poll, 18% of US workers have either lost their jobs or hours.
