{"id":176983,"date":"2020-01-31T20:54:00","date_gmt":"2020-02-01T01:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/01\/31\/fuck-4\/"},"modified":"2020-01-31T20:54:00","modified_gmt":"2020-02-01T01:54:00","slug":"fuck-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2020\/01\/31\/fuck-4\/","title":{"rendered":"fuck"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Republicans have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/01\/31\/us\/politics\/trump-impeachment-trial.html\">voted down the calling of witnesses at the impeachment<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What these folks may not realize is that they have literally written their obituaries.<\/p>\n<p>By this I do not mean that their political careers have ended, but rather than, when they die, this vote will be in the first paragraph of their obituaries:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">The Senate brought President Trump to the brink of acquittal on Friday of charges that he abused his power and obstructed Congress, as Republicans voted to block consideration of new witnesses and documents in his impeachment trial and shut down a final push by Democrats to bolster their case for the president\u2019s removal.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">In a nearly party-line vote after a bitter debate, Democrats failed to win support from the four Republicans they needed. With Mr. Trump\u2019s acquittal virtually certain, the president\u2019s allies rallied to his defense, though some conceded he was guilty of the central allegations against him.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">The Democrats\u2019 push for more witnesses and documents failed 49 to 51, with only two Republicans, Mitt Romney of Utah and Susan Collins of Maine, joining Democrats in favor. A vote on the verdict is planned for Wednesday.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On the bright side, the timing will be awfully inconvenient for Trump:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Senators recessed the trial for the weekend and will return Monday for closing arguments, with a vote on the verdict on Wednesday.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The timetable will rob Mr. Trump of the opportunity to use his State of the Union address scheduled for Tuesday night to boast about his acquittal, a prospect he has relished for several weeks. Instead, he will become the second president to deliver the speech during his own impeachment trial.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here is hoping that Trump completely loses his sh%$ at the speech.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Republicans have voted down the calling of witnesses at the impeachment.
