Please Come to the White Courtesy Phone."},"content":{"rendered":"<div>In response to FedEx terminating its relationship with Amazon, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/amazon-blocks-sellers-from-using-fedex-ground-for-prime-shipments-11576525190\">Amazon has forbidden the allegedly independent participants in its marketplace from using the package delivery service&#8217;s lower cost offerings<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p>Tell me that this is not monopoly power being abused:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/quotes.wsj.com\/AMZN\">Amazon.com<\/a> Inc. is blocking its third-party sellers from using <a href=\"https:\/\/quotes.wsj.com\/FDX\">FedEx <\/a> Corp.\u2019s ground delivery network for Prime shipments, citing a decline in performance heading into the final stretch of the holiday shopping season. <\/p>\n<p>The ban on using FedEx\u2019s Ground and Home services starts this week and will last \u201cuntil the delivery performance of these ship methods improves,\u201d according to an email Amazon sent Sunday to merchants that was reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. <\/p>\n<p>Amazon has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/fred-smith-created-fedex-now-he-has-to-reinvent-it-11571324050?mod=article_inline\">stopped using FedEx <\/a>for its own deliveries in the U.S., but third-party merchants had still been able to use FedEx. Such sellers now account for more than half of the merchandise sold on Amazon\u2019s website, including many items listed as eligible for Prime. <\/p>\n<p>FedEx said the decision impacts a small number of shippers but \u201climits the options for those small businesses on some of the highest shipping days in history.\u201d The carrier said it still expects to handle a record number of packages this holiday season. \u201cThe overall impact to our business is minuscule,\u201d a FedEx spokeswoman said. <\/p>\n<p>An Amazon spokesman said the policy change is to ensure customers receive their packages on time and the e-commerce company is managing delivery cutoffs so that orders arrive by Christmas. He said the ban is temporary and will be lifted once FedEx service levels improve. <\/p>\n<p>In its email to merchants, Amazon said sellers can use FedEx\u2019s speedier and more expensive Express service for Prime orders or FedEx Ground for non-Prime shipments. <\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Amazon and FedEx <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/fedex-to-end-u-s-ground-deliveries-for-amazon-11565182535?mod=article_inline\">ended two major shipping contracts<\/a>, totaling some $900 million in revenue for FedEx.
