{"id":177160,"date":"2019-12-07T19:46:00","date_gmt":"2019-12-08T00:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/12\/07\/consider-the-poor-citizens-of-iowa-and-new-hampshire\/"},"modified":"2019-12-07T19:46:00","modified_gmt":"2019-12-08T00:46:00","slug":"consider-the-poor-citizens-of-iowa-and-new-hampshire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/12\/07\/consider-the-poor-citizens-of-iowa-and-new-hampshire\/","title":{"rendered":"Consider the Poor Citizens of Iowa and New Hampshire"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>It appears that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2019\/11\/29\/tom-steyer-ads-new-hampshire-074223\">voters are losing their patience with Tom Steyer&#8217;s ad blitz<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p>I would assume that Bloomberg&#8217;s massive ad buy is being similarly greeted:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Maggie and Libby knew Tom Steyer\u2019s ad by heart: &#8220;I&#8217;m going to say two words that will make Washington insiders very uncomfortable: Term limits!&#8221; they recently chirped in unison at the dinner table. <\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately for Steyer, their votes can\u2019t be bought \u2014 they\u2019re 10 and 13. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was like a comedy act,\u201d the children\u2019s father, Loren Foxx, said. \u201cHis ads are on constantly.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Some Granite staters said they\u2019re seeing Steyer\u2019s ads dozens of times a day \u2014 and it\u2019s become more grating than ingratiating. A POLITICO reporter who watched YouTube music videos this week by Pentatonix, a popular a capella group, endured 17 Steyer ads in just over an hour. <\/p>\n<p>Even some of Steyer\u2019s local staff privately acknowledge the volume of ads has gone overboard. <\/p>\n<p>Steyer has massively outspent other Democratic candidates on social media in an effort to gain traction in polls and ensure he makes the debate stage. But the recoiling of some New Hampshire voters suggests there are limits to the strategy \u2014 Michael Bloomberg beware. Indeed, some residents feel like they can&#8217;t touch a piece of technology without seeing his face. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a point of no return in terms of visibility,&#8221; said Scott Spradling, a New Hampshire media analyst. &#8220;At some point, you become the uninvited guest. He uniquely is becoming dangerously close.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Steyer was asked directly in a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oDHscFpf1qs\">radio interview<\/a> whether he\u2019s passed the point of saturation to annoyance. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hear a lot of complaints about your social media ads blocking their YouTube videos,\u201d the host told the candidate, referring to her teenagers. \u201cYou apparently got the high-end ones that you have to watch.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf people actually hear my message, they do respond,\u201d Steyer replied. \u201cI\u2019m &#8230; someone who people don\u2019t know anything about and trying to make a very specific point and introduce myself.\u201d <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Billionaires seem to think that money can buy everything.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, in Steyer&#8217;s case at least, it appears to be wrong.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It appears that voters are losing their patience with Tom Steyer&#8217;s ad blitz.
