It has both civil and criminal provisions, though in recent years, prosecutors have relied only on its civil provisions, with the intent of breaking up monopolies and opening markets.  <\/p>\n<p>Asked if the criminal provisions, which could see a CEO locked up for 10 years if intent to engage in unfair restrictions on trade can be proven, Sanders said, \u201cDamn right they should be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Major Sherman Act civil cases reshaped the American economy in the 20th century \u2014 particularly the breakup of AT&amp;T in 1984, which paved the way for the rise of Silicon Valley. Civil prosecutions scare business leaders as a business matter, while criminal prosecutions, which have been sparse, frighten them personally. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Your mouth to God&#8217;s ear.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cRoosevelt\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lawecommons.luc.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?referer=&amp;httpsredir=1&amp;article=1494&amp;context=facpubs\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">antitrust chief Thurman Arnold<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> used to criminally indict business executives and fingerprint them like  ordinary executives,\u201d said Matt Stoller, whose new book \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.simonandschuster.com\/books\/Goliath\/Matt-Stoller\/9781501183089\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goliath: Hundred Year War Between Monopoly Power and Democracy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d  chronicles these battles.
