{"id":177373,"date":"2019-10-06T18:05:00","date_gmt":"2019-10-06T23:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/10\/06\/another-cia-officer-is-lawyering-up\/"},"modified":"2019-10-06T18:05:00","modified_gmt":"2019-10-06T23:05:00","slug":"another-cia-officer-is-lawyering-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/10\/06\/another-cia-officer-is-lawyering-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Another CIA Officer is Lawyering Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Someone else in the US state security apparatus has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/10\/04\/us\/politics\/second-trump-whistleblower.html\">contacted the IG in preparation of making a whistle-blower complaint<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">A second intelligence official who was alarmed by President Trump\u2019s dealings with Ukraine is weighing whether to file his own formal whistle-blower complaint and testify to Congress, according to two people briefed on the matter. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\">The official has more direct information about the events than the first whistle-blower, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2019\/09\/26\/us\/politics\/whistle-blower-complaint.html?module=inline\">whose complaint<\/a> that Mr. Trump was using his power to get Ukraine to investigate his political rivals touched off an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/09\/24\/us\/politics\/democrats-impeachment-trump.html?module=inline\">impeachment inquiry<\/a>. The second official is among those interviewed by the intelligence community inspector general to corroborate the allegations of the original whistle-blower, one of the people said.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\">The inspector general, Michael Atkinson, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/10\/04\/us\/politics\/white-house-subpoenas-impeachment.html?module=inline\">briefed lawmakers<\/a> privately on Friday about how he substantiated the whistle-blower\u2019s account. It was not clear whether he told lawmakers that the second official was considering filing a complaint.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\">A new complaint, particularly from someone closer to the events, would potentially add further credibility to the account of the first whistle-blower, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/09\/26\/us\/politics\/who-is-whistleblower.html?module=inline\">C.I.A. officer<\/a> who was detailed to the National Security Council at one point. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2019\/09\/26\/us\/politics\/whistle-blower-complaint.html?module=inline\">said<\/a> that he relied on information from more than a half-dozen American officials to compile his allegations about Mr. Trump\u2019s campaign to solicit fore<\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">ign election interference that could benefit him  politically. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I still think that Congress should have a broad impeachment investigation, because the complete lawlessness of this administration needs to be made public, but this does make things for Trump and his Evil Minions<sup>\u2122<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>As an aside, excluding Trump&#8217;s rather incendiary tweets,&nbsp; the reception that these whistle-blowers have received from the establishment and the intelligence agencies have been far more supportive than (for example) Binney, Drake, and Kiriakou.<\/p>\n<p>The only logical explanation for this is that this (relatively) benign behavior is a result of their being more supportive of the whistle-blowing regarding the Ukraine than they are of whistle-blowing regarding torture, spying on American citizens, and going to war under false pretense.<\/p>\n<p>Whistle-blowers are generally treated like sh%$, and this needs to change.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Someone else in the US state security apparatus has contacted the IG in preparation of making a whistle-blower complaint: A second intelligence official who was alarmed by President Trump\u2019s dealings with Ukraine is weighing whether to file his own formal whistle-blower complaint and testify to Congress, according to two people briefed on the matter.
