{"id":177413,"date":"2019-10-01T18:39:00","date_gmt":"2019-10-01T23:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/10\/01\/i-did-not-expect-this\/"},"modified":"2019-10-01T18:39:00","modified_gmt":"2019-10-01T23:39:00","slug":"i-did-not-expect-this","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/10\/01\/i-did-not-expect-this\/","title":{"rendered":"I Did Not Expect This"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A white woman police officer was just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/courts\/2019\/10\/01\/jurors-begin-second-day-deliberations-amber-guygers-murder-trial\/\">conviccted of murdering a black man<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It is amazing that a jury convicted her, particularly in Texas.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">A Dallas County jury on Tuesday convicted Amber Guyger of murdering Botham Jean in his apartment last year, in a trial that renewed international outrage over white police officers killing unarmed black men.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Jean&#8217;s mother raised her arms in exultation as cheers broke out in the hallway outside the courtroom when the verdict was announced shortly after 10:30 a.m., following five hours of deliberation by the jury.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">&#8220;God is good. Trust him,&#8221; Allison Jean said as she walked out of the court and into the jubilant crowd of supporters cheering outside.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She faces 5 to 99 years.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully, she gets something toward the higher end.  <\/p>\n<p>As a police officer, she is trained in the judicious use of force, particularly lethal force, and as such, she should vbe hedl to a higher standard.<\/p>\n<p>I am not sure that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/courts\/2019\/10\/01\/legal-experts-say-amber-guyger-guilty-verdict-signals-major-shift-juries-view-police-officers\/\">this verdict represents a sea change<\/a>, as some have claimed, but it&#8217;s a start.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A white woman police officer was just conviccted of murdering a black man.
