{"id":177445,"date":"2019-09-19T18:50:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-19T23:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/09\/19\/not-enough-bullets-18\/"},"modified":"2019-09-19T18:50:00","modified_gmt":"2019-09-19T23:50:00","slug":"not-enough-bullets-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/09\/19\/not-enough-bullets-18\/","title":{"rendered":"Not Enough Bullets"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Purdue Pharma has declared bankruptcy, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2019\/09\/19\/purdue-pharma-facing-thousands-lawsuits-bankruptcy-wants-pay-certain-employees-million-bonuses\/\">they still want to pay $34 million in bonuses to senior managers<\/a>, because it&#8217;s not drug pushing if you are white and went to Harvard.<\/div>\n<p>I want the guillotine concession at this bankruptcy trial.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll make out like a raped ape:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Officials at troubled drugmaker Purdue Pharma say \u201ccertain employees\u201d should be paid more than $34 million in bonuses for meeting and exceeding goals over the last three years, even though the company is facing thousands of lawsuits over its role in the nation\u2019s opioid crisis and earlier this week filed for bankruptcy.<\/p>\n<p>In a legal filing, attorneys for Purdue Pharma asked a judge to authorize millions in payments to employees who have met \u201ctarget performance goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is not clear from the company filings why employees would be eligible for bonuses because, while the bonuses are supposed to be partly contingent on the company\u2019s financial performance, the company has filed for bankruptcy.<\/p>\n<p>At a bankruptcy court hearing in White Plains, N.Y., on Tuesday, Paul K. Schwartzberg, an attorney for the U.S. Trustee, raised objections to some of the bonuses. While it is typical for companies in bankruptcy to try to pay employees as a firm seeks to regain its financial footing, the Purdue Pharma bonuses go \u201cway beyond\u201d what is typical, he said.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Enough is enough.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Purdue Pharma has declared bankruptcy, but they still want to pay $34 million in bonuses to senior managers, because it&#8217;s not drug pushing if you are white and went to Harvard.
