{"id":177447,"date":"2019-09-19T18:09:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-19T23:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/09\/19\/above-the-law\/"},"modified":"2019-09-19T18:09:00","modified_gmt":"2019-09-19T23:09:00","slug":"above-the-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/09\/19\/above-the-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Above the Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An administrative law judge has ruled that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-09-27\/tesla-committed-unfair-labor-practices-nlrb-judge-rules?utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_content=business&amp;cmpid=socialflow-twitter-business&amp;utm_medium=social\">Tesla and Elon Musk violated labor law in their treatment of employees advocating for a union<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/quote\/TSLA:US\" itemprop=\"StoryLink\" itemscope=\"itemscope\" title=\"Company Overview\">Tesla Inc.<\/a> committed a series of violations of the National Labor Relations Act in 2017 and last year, a judge ruled Friday.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The  electric-car maker illegally threatened and retaliated against  employees, according to Amita Baman Tracy, an administrative law judge  in California.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-conversation=\"none\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><span style=\"color: blue;\">Nothing stopping Tesla team at our car plant from voting union. Could do so tmrw if they wanted. But why pay union dues &amp; give up stock options for nothing? Our safety record is 2X better than when plant was UAW &amp; everybody already gets healthcare.<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2014 Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/998454539941367808?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 21, 2018<\/a><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: blue;\">The judge\u2019s order calls for Tesla to offer reinstatement and back-pay to a fired, pro-union employee, and to revoke a warning issued to another union supporter. The ruling also calls for the company to hold a meeting at its assembly plant in Fremont, California, that Musk must attend.
