{"id":177487,"date":"2019-09-06T22:05:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-07T03:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/09\/06\/thanks-mark\/"},"modified":"2019-09-06T22:05:00","modified_gmt":"2019-09-07T03:05:00","slug":"thanks-mark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/09\/06\/thanks-mark\/","title":{"rendered":"Thanks, Mark"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>It appears that Facebook <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2019\/09\/04\/facebook-phone-numbers-exposed\/\">stored hundreds of millions of records, including cell phone numbers, in plain text on their servers<\/a>, and someone swiped the data:<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Hundreds of millions of phone numbers linked to <a href=\"https:\/\/crunchbase.com\/organization\/facebook\">Facebook <\/a> accounts have been found online. <\/p>\n<p>The exposed server contained more than 419 million records over several databases on users across geographies, including 133 million records on U.S.-based Facebook users, 18 million records of users in the U.K., and another with more than 50 million records on users in Vietnam. <\/p>\n<p>But because the server wasn\u2019t protected with a password, anyone could find and access the database. <\/p>\n<p>Each record contained a user\u2019s unique Facebook ID and the phone number listed on the account.
