{"id":177643,"date":"2019-07-25T18:53:00","date_gmt":"2019-07-25T23:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/07\/25\/finally-reversing-the-f-22-crippling-of-the-f-35\/"},"modified":"2019-07-25T18:53:00","modified_gmt":"2019-07-25T23:53:00","slug":"finally-reversing-the-f-22-crippling-of-the-f-35","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/07\/25\/finally-reversing-the-f-22-crippling-of-the-f-35\/","title":{"rendered":"Finally Reversing the F-22 Crippling of the F-35"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The F-35 has a very limited air to air weapons loadout.<\/div>\n<p>My theory for this is that it was a crippled in an attempt a futile effort to protect the F-22 purchase.<\/p>\n<p>Well, it now appears that <a href=\"https:\/\/aviationweek.com\/defense\/f-35-mod-adds-new-missiles-weapons-bay\">the weapons bay is being modify to fix this shortcoming<\/a>: (It still is an over priced and under performing platform though)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/awin.aviationweek.com\/OrganizationProfiles.aspx?orgId=27191\">Lockheed Martin<\/a> will modify the <a href=\"http:\/\/awin.aviationweek.com\/ProgramProfileDetails.aspx?pgId=613&amp;pgName=Lockheed+Martin+F-35+JSF\">F-35<\/a> weapons bay to accommodate a very long-range, anti-radiation missile and support a potential future upgrade to carry up to six air-to-air missiles internally, a source close to the program says. <\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The contract announcement released by the Pentagon specifically calls for altering the portion of the Station 425 bulkhead inside the weapons to carry \u201caft heavy weaponry.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>A source close to the program says the weapon involved in the modification program is the Navy\u2019s Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile-Extended Range (AARGM-ER). <\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The modification to Station 425 also will allow the F-35 to carry six AIM-120 missiles internally, the source says. <\/p>\n<p>Lockheed has proposed the so-called \u201cSidekick\u201d modification to increase the F-35\u2019s internal load-out from four to six air-to-air missiles. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Still a misbegotten waste of resources though.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The F-35 has a very limited air to air weapons loadout.
