{"id":177764,"date":"2019-06-18T18:08:00","date_gmt":"2019-06-18T23:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/06\/18\/where-theres-a-will-theres-a-whey\/"},"modified":"2019-06-18T18:08:00","modified_gmt":"2019-06-18T23:08:00","slug":"where-theres-a-will-theres-a-whey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/06\/18\/where-theres-a-will-theres-a-whey\/","title":{"rendered":"Where There&#8217;s a Will, There&#8217;s a Whey*"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>In Yorkshire,  Wensleydale Creamery has <a href=\"https:\/\/oilprice.com\/Energy\/Energy-General\/Cheddar-To-The-Rescue-UK-Company-Uses-Cheese-To-Power-4000-Homes.html\">signed deal to have their their manufacturing byproduct fermented into biogas<\/a>:<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">A UK dairy in Yorkshire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wensleydale.co.uk\/blog\/producing-energy-from-cheese\/\">has signed an agreement<\/a> with a local biogas plant to supply it with a by-product of cheese-making that would be turned into thermal power to heat homes in the area.<\/p>\n<p>The Wensleydale Creamery, which produces the Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese, makes 4,000 tons of cheese every year at its dairy in Hawes in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.<\/p>\n<p>The company has struck a deal with specialist environment fund manager Iona Capital, under which an Iona biogas plant will produce more than 10,000 MWh of energy per year from whey\u2014a by-product of cheese making, Wensleydale Creamery said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Under the deal, Wensleydale Creamery will provide Iona Capital\u2019s Leeming Biogas plant in North Yorkshire with leftover whey from the process of cheese making. The plant will process and turn the whey into \u201cgreen gas\u201d via anaerobic digestion that will produce thermal power sufficient to heat 800 homes a year.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce we have converted the cheese by-product supplied by Wensleydale into sustainable green gas, we can feed what\u2019s left at the end of the process onto neighbouring farmland to improve local topsoil quality.
