{"id":178086,"date":"2019-03-11T19:11:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-12T00:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/03\/11\/mark-zuckerbergs-lips-are-moving-again\/"},"modified":"2019-03-11T19:11:00","modified_gmt":"2019-03-12T00:11:00","slug":"mark-zuckerbergs-lips-are-moving-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/03\/11\/mark-zuckerbergs-lips-are-moving-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Mark Zuckerberg&#8217;s Lips Are Moving Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Mark Zuckerberg has promised that Facebook will not store data in in countries that, &#8220;have a track record of violating human rights like privacy or freedom of expression.&#8221; <\/div>\n<p>It appears that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/mark-zuckerberg-blog-ignores-facebook-new-singapore-data-centre-2019-3\">everything in Singapore is just hunky-dory for him though<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Mark Zuckerberg laid out his vision for Facebook&#8217;s pivot to privacy on Wednesday in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/notes\/mark-zuckerberg\/a-privacy-focused-vision-for-social-networking\/10156700570096634\/\">lengthy blog,<\/a> but it hasn&#8217;t taken long for the shine of some of his pronouncements to be dimmed. <\/p>\n<p>Detailing plans to keep user information safe, the Facebook CEO boasted that the company has chosen not to store data in countries that &#8220;have a track record of violating human rights like privacy or freedom of expression.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If we build data centers and store sensitive data in these countries, rather than just caching non-sensitive data, it could make it easier for those governments to take people&#8217;s information,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>But within hours of Zuckerberg publishing his 3,200-word missive, it was pulled apart by human rights groups. <\/p>\n<p>In September last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/facebook-announces-first-asian-data-center-singapore-2018-9?r=US&amp;IR=T\"> Facebook announced that it was spending $1 billion building a new data center in Singapore<\/a>.
