{"id":178122,"date":"2019-03-01T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-01T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/03\/01\/i-didnt-care-who-won-but-i-care-about-who-lost\/"},"modified":"2019-03-01T12:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-03-01T17:00:00","slug":"i-didnt-care-who-won-but-i-care-about-who-lost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/03\/01\/i-didnt-care-who-won-but-i-care-about-who-lost\/","title":{"rendered":"I Didn&#8217;t Care Who Won, But I Care About Who Lost"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>I am referring, of course, to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/02\/26\/us\/chicago-election.html\">Chicago Mayoral primary campaign<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p>There was a lot of to do in the news that both candidates making it to the runoff are black women, but to me, the big deal is that William Daley lost.<\/p>\n<p>Not only is this a blow to the Chicago machine, it is a blow to the Daley dynasty:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Two African-American women are headed for a runoff in the Chicago mayor\u2019s race, setting up an election that will make history.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/02\/27\/us\/lori-lightfoot-chicago-election.html?module=inline\">Lori Lightfoot<\/a>, a former federal prosecutor and sharp critic of the status quo at City Hall, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/02\/27\/us\/chicago-election-toni-preckwinkle.html?module=inline\">Toni Preckwinkle<\/a>, the county board president and chairwoman of the county\u2019s Democratic Party, will face one another in a runoff election set for April, according to The Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>The third top vote-getter \u2014 William M. Daley, a member of Chicago\u2019s political dynasty of Daleys \u2014 earlier conceded defeat.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m not a Chicago voter, so I really do not care who wins, I&#8217;m just glad that the Daley, erstwhile mayor for life and FOB (Friend of Barak) lost.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe now, Fredrick Law Olmstead&#8217;s park won&#8217;t be ruined by Obama&#8217;s Presidential library plans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am referring, of course, to the Chicago Mayoral primary campaign.
