{"id":178143,"date":"2019-02-23T19:53:00","date_gmt":"2019-02-24T00:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/02\/23\/i-approve-of-apples-actions\/"},"modified":"2019-02-23T19:53:00","modified_gmt":"2019-02-24T00:53:00","slug":"i-approve-of-apples-actions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/02\/23\/i-approve-of-apples-actions\/","title":{"rendered":"I Approve of Apple&#8217;s Actions"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Apple is <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2019\/02\/22\/apple-confirms-its-plans-to-close-retail-stores-in-the-patent-troll-favored-eastern-district-of-texas\/\">closing its stores in the Eastern District of Texas to eliminate any possibility of having to face a law suit in the patent troll friendly court district<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p>Even better, it&#8217;s offering jobs to employees from those stores at stores across the district boundaries:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/crunchbase.com\/organization\/apple\">Apple <\/a> has confirmed its plans to close retail stores in the Eastern District of Texas \u2014 a move that will allow the company to better protect itself from patent infringement lawsuits, according to Apple news sites <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2019\/02\/22\/apple-store-galleria-dallas-plano-frisco-patent-rumors\/\">9to5Mac<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2019\/02\/22\/apple-closing-stores-in-eastern-district-texas\/\"> MacRumors,<\/a> which broke the news of the stores\u2019 closures. Apple says that the impacted retail employees will be offered new jobs with the company as a result of these changes. <\/p>\n<p>The company will shut down its Apple Willow Bend store in Plano, Texas as well as its Apple Stonebriar store in Frisco, Texas, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2019\/02\/22\/apple-closing-stores-in-eastern-district-texas\/\">MacRumors<\/a> reported, and Apple confirmed. These stores will permanently close up shop on Friday, April 12. Customers in the region will instead be served by <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2019\/02\/22\/apple-store-galleria-dallas-plano-frisco-patent-rumors\/\">a new Apple store<\/a> located at the Galleria Dallas Shopping Mall, which is expected to open April 13. <\/p>\n<p>Apple did not comment on the stores\u2019 dates of closure or the new store\u2019s opening.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The Eastern District of Texas had become a popular place for patent trolls to file their lawsuits \u2013 which may be filed where the defendant committed the infringement. However, a more recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/opinion\/articles\/2017-05-25\/the-texas-town-that-patent-trolls-built-j34rlmjc\">Supreme Court ruling<\/a> has attempted to crack down on the practice.
