{"id":178215,"date":"2019-02-06T19:13:00","date_gmt":"2019-02-07T00:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/02\/06\/why-is-this-guy-not-in-jail\/"},"modified":"2019-02-06T19:13:00","modified_gmt":"2019-02-07T00:13:00","slug":"why-is-this-guy-not-in-jail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2019\/02\/06\/why-is-this-guy-not-in-jail\/","title":{"rendered":"Why is this Guy not in Jail?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/1IPmi.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/1IPmi.jpg\" style=\"cursor: pointer; float: right; margin: 0px 0px 10px 10px;\" width=\"350\" \/><\/a>I understand that prosecutors are loath to pursue charges in cases of law enforcement, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/seattle-news\/san-juan-sheriffs-use-of-courtroom-camera-to-view-jurors-notebook-lawyers-notes-sparks-outrage-and-dismissal-of-criminal-case\/\">this Sheriff needs to go to jail<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p>He used courtroom cameras to read notepads of the defense attorney and a juror. <\/p>\n<p>This is so blatantly corrupt and so blatantly illegal that he should be arrested and held without bail:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Some defense attorneys in San Juan County worry that Sheriff Ron Krebs has a finger on the scales of justice after learning he used a courtroom security camera to surreptitiously zoom in on defense documents and a juror\u2019s notebook during a criminal trial last week. <\/p>\n<p>The incident has drawn outrage from criminal and civil-rights attorneys and frustration from the county prosecutor, and prompted a rare weekend hearing during which a judge dismissed misdemeanor assault and trespass charges against a Lopez Island man after finding the incident amounted to government misconduct that had violated his right to a fair trial. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m flabbergasted,\u201d said San Juan Public Defender Colleen Kenimond, the attorney whose notes were targeted. \u201cThis was a court of law. You are supposed to be safe there, and the proceedings are supposed to be fair. Here, the sheriff used the courtroom to violate my client\u2019s rights. Outrageous hardly covers it.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Kenimond isn\u2019t alone. San Juan County Prosecutor Randall Gaylord \u2014 whose office has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/seattle-news\/crime\/the-professor-the-cop-and-the-student-a-tale-of-sex-and-deception-in-san-juan-county\/\">stung by misconduct in the Sheriff\u2019s Office before<\/a> \u2014 distanced himself from Krebs. \u201cI too am frustrated at what has happened here, frustrated that it has happened to cases I personally was involved in, and concerned about the community we represent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In court filings, Krebs and Gaylord insisted the incident was isolated and unintentional and resulted from security concerns about the defendant in the case, who allegedly had threatened to stab a Lopez Island grocer. Krebs, in a sworn declaration, said he \u201cinadvertently manipulated the camera in the District Courtroom in such a way that it zoomed in on one or more locations in the courtroom\u201d and insisted he didn\u2019t read or pass on anything he may have seen. He claimed he did not know the camera had a zoom function.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bullsh%$.<\/p>\n<p>I guarantee that this is not the first time that he did this, it&#8217;s just the first time he got caught doing this.<\/p>\n<p>Even if it had been the fist time, he should be in facing criminal charges over this.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I understand that prosecutors are loath to pursue charges in cases of law enforcement, but this Sheriff needs to go to jail.
