{"id":178473,"date":"2018-11-17T20:19:00","date_gmt":"2018-11-18T01:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2018\/11\/17\/this-has-dystopian-written-all-over-it\/"},"modified":"2018-11-17T20:19:00","modified_gmt":"2018-11-18T01:19:00","slug":"this-has-dystopian-written-all-over-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2018\/11\/17\/this-has-dystopian-written-all-over-it\/","title":{"rendered":"This Has &#8220;Dystopian&#8221; Written All Over It"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Employers in the UK are looking at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2018\/nov\/11\/alarm-over-talks-to-implant-uk-employees-with-microchips\">chipping their employees<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, we know employees have only the best interest at heat for their workers, but I&#8217;m thinking about marketing radio blocking gloves to these folks:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Britain\u2019s biggest employer organisation and main trade union body have sounded the alarm over the prospect of British companies implanting staff with microchips to improve security.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">UK firm BioTeq, which offers the implants to businesses and individuals, has already fitted 150 implants in the UK.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The tiny chips, implanted in the flesh between the thumb and forefinger, are similar to those for pets. They enable people to open their front door, access their office or start their car with a wave of their hand, and can also store medical data.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The TUC [Trades Union Congress] is worried that staff could be coerced into being microchipped. Its general secretary Frances O\u2019Grady said: \u201cWe know workers are already concerned that some employers are using tech to control and micromanage, whittling away their staff\u2019s right to privacy.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cMicrochipping would give bosses even more power and control over their workers. There are obvious risks involved, and employers must not brush them aside, or pressure staff into being chipped.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This goes hand in hand with the plethora of surveillance cameras that make the UK the most surveilld society in the world.<\/p>\n<p>This is creepy beyond belief.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Employers in the UK are looking at chipping their employees.
