{"id":178530,"date":"2018-11-03T19:18:00","date_gmt":"2018-11-04T00:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2018\/11\/03\/not-what-i-expected-in-lakewood\/"},"modified":"2018-11-03T19:18:00","modified_gmt":"2018-11-04T00:18:00","slug":"not-what-i-expected-in-lakewood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2018\/11\/03\/not-what-i-expected-in-lakewood\/","title":{"rendered":"Not What I Expected in Lakewood"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>For those of you who don&#8217;t know, Lakewood, New Jersey has a large Orthodox Jewish community and dozens of religious schools.<\/div>\n<p>This is not a community that I would generally considered to be &#8220;woke&#8221; on the issue of vaccinations, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theyeshivaworld.com\/news\/general\/1615731\/you-are-not-welcome-in-shul-lakewood-shuls-take-strong-stance-against-anti-vaxxers-responsible-for-measles-outbreak.html\">the shuls and yeshivas in the area are refusing to admit people without vaccinations<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">The measles outbreak continues to grow, thanks to the anti-vaxxers, and now some Shuls are sending a strong message to them. <\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelakewoodscoop.com\/news\/2018\/11\/measles-outbreak-shuls-in-lakewood-ask-unvaccinated-mispallelim-not-to-come-to-shul.html\">TLS<\/a>, a few Shuls in Lakewood have sent out letters to their Mispallelim that they should not bring anyone who was not vaccinated into the building. <\/p>\n<p>A number of Lakewood schools have also taken a stance, and have informed their parent body that children who are not vaccinated are not permitted into school.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theyeshivaworld.com\/news\/general\/1607161\/fighting-the-outbreak-vishnitz-girls-school-in-monsey-not-allowing-unnvacinated-children-after-students-diagnosed-with-measles.html\">The Viznitz Monsey Girls School announced<\/a> that any child who is not immunized, can\u2019t return to school for 21 days. No \u201creligious exemption\u201d is accepted. A religious exemption does not work when there is a measles outbreak. <\/p>\n<p>Rockland County\u2019s Commissioner of Health, Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert, announced Wednesday that all schools in the Village of New Square are now required to keep students who are un-vaccinated or under-vaccinated against the disease home until 21 days have passed since the last case of measles is confirmed in the county. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theyeshivaworld.com\/news\/general\/1611300\/two-thousand-unvaccinated-people-receive-measles-vaccine-in-monsey-since-outbreak.html\">So far, the county has given more two thousand doses of the measles vaccine<\/a>, referred to as MMR.
