Michael Capuano, she buried the incumbent Democrat by double digits in the district he has represented for more than 20 years. <\/p>\n<p>With more than 100,000 primary ballots counted in the state\u2019s deep-blue 7th District, the 44-year-old Boston city councilor received 58.6 percent of the vote. Capuano, meanwhile, took home 41.4 percent of the vote. The 66-year-old congressman barely even carried his hometown of Somerville, which had propelled him into Congress <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1998\/09\/16\/us\/mayor-wins-chance-to-take-storied-kennedy-house-seat.html\">two decades earlier<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re serious about running a grassroots campaign, you don\u2019t just pick and choose where you think you can run a strong race or where you think you have a base of support,\u201d Alex Goldstein, a senior adviser to the Pressley campaign, said Wednesday. \u201cYou try to change the map everywhere.\u201d <\/p>\n<p> \u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apnews.com\/3459890e778643d5bfd4f3e5ac375121\">Before the election<\/a>, Pressley spoke of the need to expand the electorate. As NBC News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/card\/turnout-huge-ayanna-pressley-s-victory-over-michael-capuano-n906556?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_mtp\">reported<\/a>, the 102,067 total votes cast in Tuesday\u2019s election dwarfed \u2014 and sometimes more than doubled \u2014 the turnout in Capuano\u2019s previous uncontested primaries. Even in 2006, when Gov.
