{"id":179177,"date":"2018-04-25T19:04:00","date_gmt":"2018-04-26T00:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2018\/04\/25\/a-noun-a-verb-and-vladimir-putin\/"},"modified":"2018-04-25T19:04:00","modified_gmt":"2018-04-26T00:04:00","slug":"a-noun-a-verb-and-vladimir-putin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2018\/04\/25\/a-noun-a-verb-and-vladimir-putin\/","title":{"rendered":"A Noun, a Verb, and Vladimir Putin"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The Democrats in the so-called Heartland, the ones that Hillary Clinton lost in 2016, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/mollyhensleyclancy\/midwestern-democrats-dnc-trump-russia\">are losing patience with the DC party establishment&#8217;s fixation on Russia<\/a>:<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">In battleground states in the middle of the country, some Democrats watched with frustration as their party grabbed headlines last week with a splashy new lawsuit alleging a vast conspiracy between President Donald Trump and Russia.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic National Committee\u2019s drumbeat of messaging on Trump and his relationship with Russia is wearing thin with some Democrats in purple states \u2014 particularly in the Midwest, where people on the ground say voters are uninterested and even turned off by the issue. The suit exposes a gap, they say, between the party\u2019s strategy nationally and what Midwest Democrats believe will win elections in their state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe DNC is doing a good job of winning New York and California,\u201d said David Betras, the Democratic county party chair in Mahoning County, Ohio, home to Youngstown. \u201cI\u2019m not saying it\u2019s not important \u2014 of course it\u2019s important \u2014 but do they honestly think that people that were just laid off another shift at the car plant in my home county give a shit about Russia when they don\u2019t have a frickin\u2019 job?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump and Russia, Betras said, is the \u201conly piece they\u2019ve been doing since 2016.
