{"id":179197,"date":"2018-04-20T18:35:00","date_gmt":"2018-04-20T23:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2018\/04\/20\/yea-this-russiapohobia-sh-is-getting-out-of-hand\/"},"modified":"2018-04-20T18:35:00","modified_gmt":"2018-04-20T23:35:00","slug":"yea-this-russiapohobia-sh-is-getting-out-of-hand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2018\/04\/20\/yea-this-russiapohobia-sh-is-getting-out-of-hand\/","title":{"rendered":"Yea, This Russiapohobia Sh%$ Is Getting out of Hand\u2026\u2026\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It appears that the latest Russian spies prevented from entering the United States include a <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2018\/04\/18\/acclaimed-russian-ballerinas-denied-entry-into-us\/\">prima ballerina with the Bolshoi Ballet<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Amid roiling relations between the US and Russia, two members of Moscow\u2019s Bolshoi Ballet \u2014 including one of its prima ballerinas \u2014 have been refused visas to perform in New York City, Page Six has exclusively learned.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Organizers of a Lincoln Center gala where Olga Smirnova and Jacopo Tissi were due to dance on Monday believe the Department of Homeland Security\u2019s decision may be motivated by the myriad tensions between the superpowers \u2014 and say that Smirnova is so revered in Moscow that her treatment could create a Russian backlash.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">On Wednesday the department\u2019s site read, \u201cOn April 10, 2018, we denied your\u2026 petition for a nonimmigrant worker.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cI don\u2019t understand it,\u201d Linda K. Morse, chair of Youth America Grand Prix \u2014 which is hosting the gala \u2014 told Page Six. \u201cOne interpretation is that it\u2019s political. That\u2019s my knee-jerk reaction, but I can\u2019t figure out why \u2014 other than that they\u2019re Russian. But it doesn\u2019t make any sense.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The immigration service\u2019s objection appears to be that the organizers applied for a visa usually granted to groups of entertainers, but since Smirnova and Tissi were planning to perform at the \u201cStars of Today Meets the Stars of Tomorrow\u201d gala as individuals, rather than alongside the rest of the Bolshoi company, they\u2019re not eligible for it.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">But we\u2019re told that YAGP has got the same visa for dancers \u2014 including Smirnova \u2014 in the past. Morse told us she \u201cdefinitely\u201d thinks the move could create political resentment in Russia. \u201cOlga is considered the number one ballerina in the world right now,\u201d said Morse, \u201cand to refuse her visa is striking.
