{"id":179245,"date":"2018-04-09T19:27:00","date_gmt":"2018-04-10T00:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2018\/04\/09\/holy-sh-4\/"},"modified":"2018-04-09T19:27:00","modified_gmt":"2018-04-10T00:27:00","slug":"holy-sh-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2018\/04\/09\/holy-sh-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Holy Sh%$!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The FBI just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/04\/09\/us\/politics\/fbi-raids-office-of-trumps-longtime-lawyer-michael-cohen.html\">raided Michael Cohen&#8217;s office<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Cohen is Donald Trump&#8217;s long time <strike>consiglieri<\/strike> lawyer, and the fact that they have raided his office, and seized his files, including his communications with clients.<\/p>\n<p>As a non-lawyer, I know that this is a huge deal, because, among other things, it means that Cohen is believed to have actively broken the law, typically by something like actively facilitating fraud, not merely having advised a criminal.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/04\/09\/us\/politics\/fbi-raids-office-of-trumps-longtime-lawyer-michael-cohen.html\">summarize the comments of a lawyer Ken White<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This warrant was secured by the U.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office for the Southern District of New York, the most prominent US Attorney&#8217;s office in the nation outside of Washington, DC.<\/li>\n<li>They thought that they had enough evidence to apply for a warrant searching what is normally privileged communications.<\/li>\n<li>Getting a warrant to raid a lawyer&#8217;s office involves <b>MANY<\/b> hoops to jump through.<\/li>\n<li>The court thought that the evidence was convincing enough to grant the warrant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I am inclined to believe that this is about some sort of fraud, and not any sort of spy-craft involving the FSB or the GRU, particularly since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2017\/10\/30\/mueller-manafort-gates-testimony-244339\">Mueller has already used the &#8220;crime-fraud exception&#8221; to get some communications with Manafort&#8217;s attorney<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is a big f%$#ing deal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The FBI just raided Michael Cohen&#8217;s office.
