{"id":179290,"date":"2018-03-29T18:45:00","date_gmt":"2018-03-29T23:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2018\/03\/29\/i-know-where-i-am-eating-the-next-time-that-i-am-in-toronto\/"},"modified":"2018-03-29T18:45:00","modified_gmt":"2018-03-29T23:45:00","slug":"i-know-where-i-am-eating-the-next-time-that-i-am-in-toronto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2018\/03\/29\/i-know-where-i-am-eating-the-next-time-that-i-am-in-toronto\/","title":{"rendered":"I Know Where I am Eating the Next Time that I am in Toronto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/kANcr3r.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/kANcr3r.jpg\" style=\"cursor: pointer; float: right; margin: 0px 0px 10px 10px;\" width=\"250\" \/><\/a>I will have a meal at the Antler Kitchen and Bar, if just because the chef and co-owner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/food\/wp\/2018\/03\/28\/the-vegans-came-to-protest-his-restaurant-so-this-chef-carved-a-deer-leg-in-the-window\/\">had such a beautiful way of dealing with protests from the nut-job vegan crowd<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">The vegans planned their protest for the middle of the restaurant\u2019s busy dinnertime shift. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\">The group of animal rights activists were incensed that Antler Kitchen &amp; Bar, a locavore restaurant in Toronto that says it highlights regional ingredients, served foie gras and farmed meat \u201cmeant to run in the wild.\u201d So a group of them stood in front last week chanting \u201cyou\u2019ve got blood on your hands,\u201d and holding a banner that read MURDER in hot pink lettering. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\">Then came the counterprotest. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"> <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\">Michael Hunter, a chef and co-owner of the restaurant appeared in its window with a raw deer leg and a sharp knife, when he began to carve up the meat in full view of the protesters, some of whom later said they were disturbed for days, according to news reports. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cI figured, I\u2019ll show them,\u201d Hunter told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/canada\/toronto\/article-toronto-restaurateur-bites-back-against-animal-rights-protesters\/\">Globe and Mail<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m going to have my own protest.\u201d <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\">The episode, which was captured on video by one of the protesters, has since drawn wide attention from local news outlets and social media.
