Although there are more registered Democrats than Republicans in the state, Republicans hold 13 of 18 congressional seats.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The GOP leaders asked the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene, but Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. turned down their request for a stay without even referring the case to his colleagues.
