{"id":179475,"date":"2018-01-26T20:41:00","date_gmt":"2018-01-27T01:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2018\/01\/26\/corruption-much-3\/"},"modified":"2018-01-26T20:41:00","modified_gmt":"2018-01-27T01:41:00","slug":"corruption-much-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2018\/01\/26\/corruption-much-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Corruption Much?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The New York City police union, like many other departments and police unions, issues &#8220;Friend\/Relative of a cop&#8221; cards, they serve as &#8220;Get Out of Jail Free&#8221; cards.<\/p>\n<p>Because of extensive reselling by the boys in blue, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2018\/01\/21\/police-union-slashes-number-of-get-out-of-jail-free-cards-issued\/\">the union has slashed the number of cards that it issues<\/a>, and the cops are pissed off.<\/p>\n<p>They want their baksheesh, I guess:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">The city\u2019s police-officers union is cracking down on the number of \u201cget out of jail free\u201d courtesy cards distributed to cops to give to family and friends.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Patrolmen\u2019s Benevolent Association boss Pat Lynch slashed the maximum number of cards that could be issued to current cops from 30 to 20, and to retirees from 20 to 10, sources told The Post.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The cards are often used to wiggle out of minor trouble such as speeding tickets, the theory being that presenting one suggests you know someone in the NYPD.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The rank and file is livid.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">A source said Lynch ordered the cutback to stop the sale of the cards, which were being hawked on eBay last week for as much as $200.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Banana republic much?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The New York City police union, like many other departments and police unions, issues &#8220;Friend\/Relative of a cop&#8221; cards, they serve as &#8220;Get Out of Jail Free&#8221; cards.
