{"id":179696,"date":"2017-11-24T19:42:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-25T00:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2017\/11\/24\/requiem-for-my-nemesis\/"},"modified":"2017-11-24T19:42:00","modified_gmt":"2017-11-25T00:42:00","slug":"requiem-for-my-nemesis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2017\/11\/24\/requiem-for-my-nemesis\/","title":{"rendered":"Requiem for My Nemesis"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"border: 1px solid black; float: right; margin: 0px 10px; padding: 5px; text-align: center; width: 330px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"180\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IdbwrDFeM78\" width=\"320\"><\/iframe><br \/><i>RP&#8217;s Film Debut<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/G2sGwFU.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/G2sGwFU.jpg\" width=\"310\" \/><\/a><br \/>In the Cat Run<\/i><\/div>\n<p>You may not be aware, but I have a nemesis.<\/p>\n<p>The Perry the Platypus to my Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz was RP the Cat, the smartest, fastest, and most ferocious representative of the species <i>Felis silvestris catus<\/i> that I have ever met.<br \/><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p>In late 2011, I caught one of the colony of feral cats in the area with the goal of adopting it.<\/p>\n<p>It was RP the cat, and much mayhem ensued, all of which <a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2011\/12\/it-appears-that-i-do-have-time-to-bleed.html\">involved much blood loss on my part<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>She, we later saw her with her litters, <a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2012\/02\/i-have-cat-infestation.html\">found a way to get into and out of the house<\/a><\/p>\n<p>When we adopted cats from the Humane Society, RP came into the house and ate the cat food, a fact that <a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2012\/02\/i-have-cat-infestation.html\">we verified with a time lapse camera<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At this point, Charlie named the cat Rodentia Phage, eater of rodents, RP for short, though after my escapades with the cat, RP came to stand for Ravage and Pillage.<\/p>\n<p>We were unamused with the situation, as RP brought in things from the outside, most notably fleas.<\/p>\n<p>At this point, <a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2013\/08\/rp-the-cat.html\">this cat came to be my great white whale<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So, I <a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2013\/08\/well-i-got-cat-trap-together.html\">set up a &#8220;Have a Heart&#8221; trap<\/a> that fed into a cat cage (about 1m x 1.5m x 1m), and when that did not work because RP knew not to step on the touch plate, so I <a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2013\/08\/rpfinallycaught.html\">used more computing power than was used to put Neil Armstrong on the moon<\/a> to improve the cat.<\/p>\n<p>It worked, but I never managed to tame her, and eventually I slipped up, and she got out, and she was in the house, but had forgotten how to get out, so for the next 5 years she was in the house skulking around and successfully evading us.<\/p>\n<p>Two days ago, we noticed some blood on the couch, and after examining our cats, realized that it had to be RP.<\/p>\n<p>I searched, and found her in an awful state, barely able to move, with a wound on her neck and trouble breathing.<\/p>\n<p>She was feeble enough that I could catch her and get her to the vet.<\/p>\n<p>The diagnosis was that it was an abscess that went septic, and there was nothing that could be done, so we had her put to sleep.<\/p>\n<p>Valhalla has added its most hard core new resident.<\/p>\n<p>I will be downing a bourbon in her honor tonight.<\/p>\n<p>What follows is a list, in chronological order of my interactions with, and reflections about, RP the cat:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 10px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2011\/12\/it-appears-that-i-do-have-time-to-bleed.html\"> It Appears that I Do Have Time to Bleed <\/a> <\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 10px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2011\/12\/all-that-blood-so-little-cat.html\"> All that Blood, So Little Cat <\/a> <\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 10px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2012\/02\/i-have-cat-infestation.html\"> I have a Cat Infestation <\/a> <\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 10px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2012\/11\/who-knew-that-i-would-be-proprietor-of.html\"> Who Knew that I Would Be the Proprietor of a Cat House?
