{"id":179900,"date":"2017-09-20T20:29:00","date_gmt":"2017-09-21T01:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2017\/09\/20\/they-really-are-chicken-shs\/"},"modified":"2017-09-20T20:29:00","modified_gmt":"2017-09-21T01:29:00","slug":"they-really-are-chicken-shs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2017\/09\/20\/they-really-are-chicken-shs\/","title":{"rendered":"They Really are Chicken Sh%$s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Trump&#8217;s HHS Secretary Tom Price <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2017\/09\/19\/tom-price-chartered-planes-flights-242908\">has been burning up private jet hours so profligately that it might make Steve Mnuchin blush<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">In a sharp departure from his predecessors, Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price last week took private jets on five separate flights for official business, at a cost of tens of thousands of dollars more than commercial travel.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The secretary\u2019s five flights, which were scheduled between Sept. 13 and Sept. 15, took him to a resort in Maine where he participated in a Q&amp;A discussion with a health care industry CEO, and to community health centers in New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, according to internal HHS documents.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The travel by corporate-style jet comes at a time when other members of the Trump administration are under fire for travel expenditures, and breaks with the practices of Obama-era secretaries Sylvia Mathews Burwell and Kathleen Sebelius, who flew commercially while in the continental United States.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Price, a frequent critic of federal spending who has been developing a plan for departmentwide cost savings, declined to comment.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Price\u2019s spokespeople declined to comment on why he considered commercial travel to be unfeasible.
