{"id":179911,"date":"2017-09-16T20:10:00","date_gmt":"2017-09-17T01:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2017\/09\/16\/what-a-load-of-excrement-metaphor\/"},"modified":"2017-09-16T20:10:00","modified_gmt":"2017-09-17T01:10:00","slug":"what-a-load-of-excrement-metaphor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2017\/09\/16\/what-a-load-of-excrement-metaphor\/","title":{"rendered":"What a Load of [Excrement Metaphor]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/6b0dXro.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/6b0dXro.jpg\" style=\"cursor: pointer; float: right; margin: 0px 0px 10px 10px;\" width=\"300\" \/><\/a>Researchers at Abertay University and the University of New South Wales Canberra have concluded that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/education\/2017\/09\/15\/boys-better-physics-learn-projection-whilegoing-toilet-researchers\/\">boys are better at physics because they can &#8220;Fire for Effect&#8221; when peeing<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Boys are better at Physics because they learn about \u201cprojection\u201d while going to the toilet, researchers have claimed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">From a young age, boys are taught about how to aim accurately so that they do not make a mess in the bathroom, and this gives them a better understanding of \u201cprojectile motion\u201d, according to three academics.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Writing for Times Education Supplement (TES), Anna Wilson of Abertay University along with Kate Wilson and David Low of the University of New South Wales Canberra, explained their theory.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cPlayful urination practices \u2013 from seeing how high you can pee to games such as Peeball (where men compete using their urine to destroy a ball placed in a urinal) \u2013 may give boys an advantage over girls when it comes to physics,\u201d the academics wrote.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The researchers said they have examined gender differences in achievement on physics tests, and found that girls generally perform worse than boys, but with a more marked gap in specific topic areas.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cIn particular, the largest gaps in performance between girls and boys arise in questions that involve projectile motion \u2013 things that have been thrown, kicked, fired, etc,\u201d they said.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cOn some projectile questions, we\u2019ve seen only around one-third of girls answer correctly, compared to two-thirds of boys.
