{"id":179917,"date":"2017-09-14T18:52:00","date_gmt":"2017-09-14T23:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2017\/09\/14\/clueless-protesters\/"},"modified":"2017-09-14T18:52:00","modified_gmt":"2017-09-14T23:52:00","slug":"clueless-protesters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2017\/09\/14\/clueless-protesters\/","title":{"rendered":"Clueless Protesters"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"border: 1px solid black; float: right; margin: 0px 10px; padding: 5px; text-align: center; width: 330px;\">\n<blockquote data-lang=\"en\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Some fans in the Monster Seats hung a banner over the wall that said, \u201cRacism Is As American As Baseball.\u201d Security removed them. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/tVSai9XocY\">pic.twitter.com\/tVSai9XocY<\/a><\/div>\n<p>\u2014 Pete Abraham (@PeteAbe) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeteAbe\/status\/908124144105136128\">September 14, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>Given Boston&#8217;s history of racism, I&#8217;m inclined to think that protesting racism at Fenway Park during a Red Sox game is a good thing.<\/p>\n<p>Boston is <b>NOT<\/b> a &#8220;woke&#8221; place, and getting in the face of the town in what is arguably the most Boston place in Boston is a good thing.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, if you do protest, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/sports\/boston-red-sox\/2017\/09\/13\/fans-drape-racism-is-as-american-as-baseball-sign-over-green-monster\">run it by an editor to make sure that your actual words are unambiguous<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Fans draped a sign reading \u201cRacism is as American as baseball\u201d over the Green Monster at Fenway Park during the Red Sox-Athletics game Wednesday night.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Red Sox spokeswoman Zineb Curran replied with the following statement via email when asked about the incident:<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cDuring the 4th inning of&nbsp;tonight\u2019s&nbsp;game, four fans unfurled a banner  over the left field wall in violation of the club\u2019s policy prohibiting  signs of any kind to be hung or affixed to the ballpark.
