{"id":180286,"date":"2017-06-02T18:27:00","date_gmt":"2017-06-02T23:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2017\/06\/02\/i-have-here-in-my-hand-a-list-of-1000-names\/"},"modified":"2017-06-02T18:27:00","modified_gmt":"2017-06-02T23:27:00","slug":"i-have-here-in-my-hand-a-list-of-1000-names","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2017\/06\/02\/i-have-here-in-my-hand-a-list-of-1000-names\/","title":{"rendered":"I Have Here in My Hand a List of 1,000 Names\u2026\u2026\u2026*"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yep, in a speech the Code Conference, Hillary Clinton went the Joseph McCarthy route, and claimed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/policy-and-politics\/2017\/5\/31\/15719342\/hillary-clinton-2016-excuses\">there were a thousand Russian agents sabotaging her campaign<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s be clear on this:  There were any number reasons that Hillary Clinton lost, and if more than a few of them had been different, the outcome would have been different.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, Clinton snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in the 2008 primaries and in the 2012 general election, and it&#8217;s fairly clear that she was much, if not most, of the problem:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>She employed people on the basis of loyalty and not competence.  (See Penn, Mark)<\/li>\n<li>Her campaigns, even more than most, were snake pits of people fighting for power because of a lack of clear lines of authority.<\/li>\n<li>Her response to problems was to stonewall, which made it worse.<\/li>\n<li>The concept of a simple honest apology is beyond her.  (See her refusal to apologize for her Iraq war vote until it was way too late)<\/li>\n<li>There was absolutely no learning curve from 2008 to 2016, and she had been working on the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> race for pretty much the whole 8 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So, in her talk, she finds herself blameless<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Hillary Clinton doesn\u2019t believe she or her campaign made any significant mistakes in the 2016 election. But speaking at the Code Conference on Wednesday, she had a long list of others she blames for her defeat.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">She points the finger at Russia, fake news, the sorry state of the Democratic Party, sexism, and the media that covered the email scandal \u201clike Pearl Harbor,\u201d among others. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cIf you look at Facebook, the vast majority of the news  items posted were fake,\u201d Clinton told Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg,  editors of the Vox Media site Recode, which sponsors the conference.  \u201c<b><span style=\"font-size: 100%; font-variant: small-caps;\">They were connected to \u2014 as we now know \u2014 the 1,000 Russian agents who  were involved in delivering those messages<\/span><\/b>. They were connected to the  bots that are just out of control.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">It\u2019s not actually clear that \u201cwe now know\u201d any of this.  There was a lot of fake news swirling around Facebook in the closing  weeks of the campaign, but I haven\u2019t seen any evidence that it was the  \u201cvast majority.\u201d The claim that there were 1,000 Russian agents  spreading fake news <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/russian-trolls-fake-news_us_58dde6bae4b08194e3b8d5c4\">comes from a March statement<\/a> by Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), but he described these as unconfirmed reports, not proven facts.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(<i>emphasis mine<\/i>)<\/p>\n<p>The similarities between what she said, and what Joe McCarthy said are striking.<\/p>\n<p>BTW, at that same speech, <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/336001-dnc-allies-incensed-by-clinton-criticism\">she threw the DNC&#8217;s data operations under the bus<\/a>, despite her campaign ignoring advice to campaign in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Irritated Democrats say Hillary Clinton is wrong to cast blame on the national party for her loss to Donald Trump. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Allies of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in particular were incensed by Clinton\u2019s criticism of the party apparatus, saying she mischaracterized the committee\u2019s work while needlessly stoking internal divisions.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Clinton surprised Democrats on Wednesday when she complained that she inherited &#8220;nothing&#8221; from a &#8220;bankrupt&#8221; DNC after becoming the nominee.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">She faulted the committee, which some saw as favoring her during the tough primary fight against Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), as having \u201cmediocre to poor, nonexistent, wrong\u201d data operation. The remarks were also seen as a rebuke of President Obama, who chose the leaders of the DNC during his tenure.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Andrew Therriault, who served as the DNC&#8217;s director of data science until last June, said Clinton\u2019s claims were \u201cf&#8212;ing bulls&#8212;\u201d in a series of tweets that have since been deleted.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Therriault accused Clinton\u2019s team of ignoring DNC data that warned of a close race in the three states that, by narrow margins, ultimately handed Trump his Electoral College victory: Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cAll that said, irony of her bashing DNC data: *our* models never had mi\/wi\/pa looking even close to safe. Her team thought they knew better,\u201d Therriault wrote. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Paraphrasing what Tallyrand probably didn&#8217;t originally say of the Bourbon kings Napoleon,<sup>\u2020<\/sup> &#8220;She has learned nothing, and she has forgotten nothing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I think that she honestly believes that she can win if she runs again in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe she should ask herself if she <b>deserves<\/b> to win if she runs again in 2020. <\/p>\n<p><sup>*<\/sup><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">This is a reference to the following infamous <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joseph_McCarthy\">Joseph McCarthy<\/a> Quote: <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">The State  Department is infested with communists.
