{"id":180425,"date":"2017-04-22T18:09:00","date_gmt":"2017-04-22T23:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2017\/04\/22\/an-old-home-remedy-that-worked-for-me\/"},"modified":"2017-04-22T18:09:00","modified_gmt":"2017-04-22T23:09:00","slug":"an-old-home-remedy-that-worked-for-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2017\/04\/22\/an-old-home-remedy-that-worked-for-me\/","title":{"rendered":"An Old Home Remedy that Worked for Me"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"border: 1px solid black; float: right; margin: 0px 10px; padding: 5px; text-align: center; width: 360px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/0zf2WQO.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" bordercolor=\"white\" src=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/0zf2WQO.jpg\" width=\"350\" \/><\/a><br \/><i>They are such cute merciless killing machines<\/i><\/div>\n<p>With a feral cat in our house, the infamous <a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/search\/label\/RP%20the%20Cat\">RP the Cat<\/a>, our decidedly non-feral cats, Meatball\/Mousetrap and Destructo have suffered from fleas.<\/p>\n<p>This has particularly been hard on Destructo, as he is a long hair.<\/p>\n<p>I have tried the normal treatments, Frontline<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> and Advantage<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, but they have been of limited effectiveness, I think that the fleas have developed resistance, and they are rather pricey, and Destructo must have the back of his head shaved (he <b>hates<\/b> this) for this to work, because otherwise it never makes contact with his skin.<\/p>\n<p>I had heard that brewers yeast ameliorates flea infestations, so twice a week, we take a can of wet cat food, mix in two heaping teaspoons of brewers yeast.<\/p>\n<p>The cats love the wet food, and it works like a dream.<\/p>\n<p>Destructo is now almost completely free of flea sores, and their fur is thicker and more luxurious.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy, cheap, and it involves no cat induced blood loss.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>They are such cute merciless killing machines With a feral cat in our house, the infamous RP the Cat, our decidedly non-feral cats, Meatball\/Mousetrap and Destructo have suffered from fleas.
