Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he will vote no on President Trump\u2019s nominee and asked other Democrats to join him in blocking an up-or-down vote on Gorsuch.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Under Senate rules, it requires 60 votes to overcome such an obstacle. Republicans eager to confirm Gorsuch before their Easter recess \u2014 and before the court concludes hearing the current term of cases next month \u2014 have only 52 senators.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Republicans have vowed Gorsuch will be confirmed even if it means overhauling the way justices have long been approved. Traditionally, senators can force the Senate to muster a supermajority just to bring up the nomination of a Supreme Court justice. If that is reached, the confirmation requires a simple majority.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">In a speech on the Senate floor, Schumer said: \u201cIf this nominee cannot earn 60 votes \u2014 a bar met by each of President Obama\u2019s nominees and George Bush\u2019s last two nominees \u2014 the answer isn\u2019t to change the rules. It\u2019s to change the nominee.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I don&#8217;t believe him.<\/p>\n<p>They will threaten this for a couple of weeks, raise money off of that posturing, and then fold up like overcooked broccoli.<\/p>\n<p>I will not vote for any Senator who votes for cloture on Gorsuch, ever, for any office, ever.<\/p>\n<p>I will support their opponents in any primary.<\/p>\n<p>Call your Senator, and tell them the same.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chuck Schumer is claiming that Democrats will filibuster the Gorsuch nomination.
