He did his time in the small jail in the nearby city of Seal Beach, with amenities that included flat-screen TVs, a computer room and new beds. He served six months, at a cost of $18,250, according to jail records.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Markin learned about Wurtzel\u2019s upgraded jail stay only recently, from a reporter. \u201cI feel like, \u2018Why did I go through this?\u2019\u201d she said.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">In what is commonly called \u201cpay-to-stay\u201d or \u201cprivate jail,\u201d a constellation of small city jails \u2014 at least 26 of them in Los Angeles and Orange counties \u2014 open their doors to defendants who can afford the option.
