{"id":181265,"date":"2016-08-16T21:47:00","date_gmt":"2016-08-17T02:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2016\/08\/16\/from-libertarian-ubermensch-to-sucking-at-the-taxpayers-tit\/"},"modified":"2016-08-16T21:47:00","modified_gmt":"2016-08-17T02:47:00","slug":"from-libertarian-ubermensch-to-sucking-at-the-taxpayers-tit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2016\/08\/16\/from-libertarian-ubermensch-to-sucking-at-the-taxpayers-tit\/","title":{"rendered":"From Libertarian Ubermensch to Sucking at the Taxpayer&#8217;s Tit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The city of Arlington Virginia is looking at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/dr-gridlock\/wp\/2016\/08\/16\/arlington-planning-to-subsidize-rideshare-trips-to-the-metro\/\">paying Uber to take people to metro stops<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Arlington County is looking to partner with transportation providers such as Uber and Lyft to offer residents rides from more remote residential areas of the county where bus service to Metro stations is limited.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The on-demand option would replace some fixed bus service in north Arlington.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cWhat we would be supporting is picking up residents in their neighborhood and taking them to one or two designated stops, most likely a transit station,\u201d said Marti Reinfeld, the county\u2019s interim transit bureau chief. \u201cThe county will subsidize that at some level.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">It could take a couple of years before such a program launches, but county transportation officials say they want to do so as soon as possible.
