{"id":181270,"date":"2016-08-15T20:21:00","date_gmt":"2016-08-16T01:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2016\/08\/15\/the-38-minute-debate\/"},"modified":"2016-08-15T20:21:00","modified_gmt":"2016-08-16T01:21:00","slug":"the-38-minute-debate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2016\/08\/15\/the-38-minute-debate\/","title":{"rendered":"The 38 Minute Debate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Tim Canova finally had a debate \u2026\u2026\u2026 for about 38 minutes \u2026\u2026\u2026 on a Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/news\/politics\/fl-wasserman-schultz-debate-canova-20160814-story.html\">it got kind of heated<\/a>, which is not surprising.<\/p>\n<p>When you have what amounts to just \u00bd a debate, you don&#8217;t have the time to explore policy differences:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Hostility oozed from South Florida TV screens Sunday morning as Tim Canova and Debbie Wasserman Schultz faced off in their first, and likely only, debate before the Aug. 30 Democratic congressional primary.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Incumbent Wasserman Schultz and challenger Canova clashed on a handful of issues, most notably on Israel and Social Security, which are both important in the Broward\/Miami-Dade County 23rd Congressional District, home to a large Jewish community and to many seniors.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Even sharper exchanges concerned charges about judgment, temperament and commitment to South Florida. The two repeatedly expressed exasperation with each other, often seeking to interrupt the other to make a point.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I watched a bit of it at the site, but I cannot stand listening to DWS.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t think that it will make much of a difference.<\/p>\n<p>It was at a time when no one tuned in, and it was too short, which was what Wasserman Schultz wanted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Tim Canova finally had a debate \u2026\u2026\u2026 for about 38 minutes \u2026\u2026\u2026 on a Sunday morning.
