{"id":181347,"date":"2016-07-23T18:39:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-23T23:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2016\/07\/23\/more-of-this-13\/"},"modified":"2016-07-23T18:39:00","modified_gmt":"2016-07-23T23:39:00","slug":"more-of-this-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2016\/07\/23\/more-of-this-13\/","title":{"rendered":"More of This"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>I support Black Lives Matter and related groups, but this does not mean that I necessarily approve of some of their tactics.<\/div>\n<p>That being said, I wholeheartedly approve of <a href=\"http:\/\/chicagoist.com\/2016\/07\/21\/activists_chained_together_to_block.php\">BLM activists blockading the Chicago Police&#8217;s secret torture site<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Activists on Wednesday night marched in North Lawndale and also blocked the entrance to the Chicago Police Department\u2019s notorious Homan Square site. <\/p>\n<p>The Homan Square building has been a source of controversy ever since the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2015\/feb\/24\/chicago-police-detain-americans-black-site\">Guardian<\/a> exposed the \u201coff-the-books interrogation compound\u201d in February of 2015. The profile documents claims that detainees were routinely kept from contacting family or legal representation.<\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/> The protest was organized by the Let Us Breathe Collective and Black Youth Project 100 to demand a transition in how tax dollars are allocated, namely an \u201cinvestment into new alternatives to keep Black communities safe and a divestment from police and legislative systems that are violent towards Black communities,\u201d according to a statement. <\/p>\n<p>Activists used chains, tubes, bike locks and ladders to bind themselves together, blocking the entrance path. Other nearby protesters set up tents and a \u201cFree Store\u201d that offered provisions. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;Well done.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I support Black Lives Matter and related groups, but this does not mean that I necessarily approve of some of their tactics.
