{"id":181563,"date":"2016-05-18T19:07:00","date_gmt":"2016-05-19T00:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2016\/05\/18\/trump-is-right-on-this\/"},"modified":"2016-05-18T19:07:00","modified_gmt":"2016-05-19T00:07:00","slug":"trump-is-right-on-this","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2016\/05\/18\/trump-is-right-on-this\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump is Right on This"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For more the 20 years, we have had a problem with out negotiations with the DPRK (North Korea).<\/p>\n<p>We haven&#8217;t even been able to end the Korean War.<sup>*<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The problem is that one of the parties is not negotiations is not acting in good faith, and engages in meaningless posturing, threats of dire consequences, and a general lack of seriousness.<\/p>\n<p>The other, of course, is the DPRK.<\/p>\n<p>Since the Clinton administration stiffed the DPRK on formal diplomatic relations in 2004, the US has refused face to face negotiations, because \u2026\u2026\u2026 Hell, I don&#8217;t know why, but it appears that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/election-us-2016-36318752\">Donald Trump finds this similarly absurd<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Presumptive US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says he is willing to meet North Korea&#8217;s leader to discuss its nuclear programme.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">&#8220;I would speak to him, I would have no problem speaking to him,&#8221; the businessman said of Kim Jong-un.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Such a meeting would mark a significant change of US policy towards the politically isolated regime.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton decried Mr Trump&#8217;s &#8220;bizarre fascination with foreign strongmen&#8221;.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The statement, delivered by one of her aides, added that Mr Trump&#8217;s foreign policy &#8220;made no sense&#8221;.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Because talking with people instead of threatening them works so well?<\/p>\n<p>The DPRK has tested nukes, probably including a <a href=\"http:\/\/40yrs.blogspot.com\/2016\/01\/i-am-calling-boosted-fission-device.html\">boosted fission device<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/04\/23\/asia\/north-korea-launches-missile-from-submarine\/\">they have conducted launches of SLBMs<\/a> in the 22 years since we promised to exchange ambassadors.<\/p>\n<p>Talking to someone is not a reward.  Rewarding someone is a reward.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, talking to Donald Trump is one of my definitions of cruel and unusual punishment.<\/p>\n<p>The Washington, DC consensus on the DPRK is nuts, and stupid, and nuts.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is right here, a generation of US diplomats are wrong.<\/p>\n<p>BTW, f%$# the Donald for being right, and f%$# the idiots at Foggy Bottom for making him right.<\/p>\n<p><sup>*<\/sup><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Seriously.  This is not a joke.
