(See: <a href=\"http:\/\/my.xfinity.com\/slideshow\/sports-15worstsportscontracts\/16\/\">Gilbert Arenas<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>For talk radio, there\u2019s probably only one contract that enters that realm of notoriety: Rush Limbaugh\u2019s eight-year, <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/blog\/2012\/03\/16\/struggling-clear-channel-and-rush-limbaughs-400\/184643\">$400-million deal<\/a>, signed in the summer of 2008 with his longtime radio employer Premiere Radio Networks.<\/p>\n<p>Owned by Clear Channel Communications, which has since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/envelope\/cotown\/la-et-ct-clear-channel-iheart-20140910-story.html\">changed its name<\/a> to iHeartRadio, Premiere\u2019s Limbaugh deal instantly dwarfed any payout in AM\/FM history. (Only Howard Stern\u2019s contract with Sirius was larger.) The contract, which included a staggering $100 million <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2008\/07\/02\/AR2008070202063.html\">signing bonus<\/a>, never panned out as the wheels began to <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/blog\/2015\/06\/05\/more-bad-news-for-rush-limbaugh\/203898\">come off<\/a> Limbaugh\u2019s radio empire.   <\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">This year, his contract is up and the timing couldn\u2019t be worse. The talker is facing&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/politics\/rush-limbaugh-ratings-sagging-article-1.2263146\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ratings hurdles<\/a>, aging demographics, and an advertising community that increasingly views him as&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/01\/rush-limbaugh-still-toxic-for-advertisers-one-y\/192865\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">toxic<\/a>, thanks in part to his&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/research\/2012\/03\/05\/limbaugh-launched-46-personal-attacks-on-fluke\/184269\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">days-long<\/a>&nbsp;sexist meltdown over Sandra Fluke in 2012. (He\u2019s also&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/blog\/2016\/04\/08\/rush-limbaughs-gop-primary-season-hell\/209826\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stumbling through<\/a>&nbsp;the GOP primary season.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Concurrently,  iHeartRadio\u2019s parent company, iHeartMedia, is heading to court,  teetering on bankruptcy.
