{"id":182033,"date":"2016-01-13T20:43:00","date_gmt":"2016-01-14T01:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2016\/01\/13\/f-me-i-agree-with-geraldo-rivera\/"},"modified":"2016-01-13T20:43:00","modified_gmt":"2016-01-14T01:43:00","slug":"f-me-i-agree-with-geraldo-rivera","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2016\/01\/13\/f-me-i-agree-with-geraldo-rivera\/","title":{"rendered":"F%$# Me, I Agree with Geraldo Rivera"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Fox News, he has stated that<a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/2016\/01\/12\/foxs_geraldo_rivera_what_is_clear_is_that_the_nation_was_not_ready_for_a_black_president\/\">the reaction to Barack Obama&#8217;s presidency shows that the nation was not ready for a black man in the White House<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He further goes on to state that he believes that Obama shirked his duty to address these issues, which I <b>also<\/b> agree with:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Fox News\u2019 Geraldo Rivera was Tuesday\u2019s \u201cOne Lucky Guy\u201d on the network\u2019s \u201cOutnumbered\u201d midday hit and shared his unpopular opinion with the conservative female co-hosts ahead of President Obama\u2019s seventh and final State of the Union address Tuesday evening.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">But Rivera argued that despite substantive policy disagreements, the real divisions made clear during the Obama presidency fall along racial lines:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">When you strip away all of the gun rights and the, you know, terror all rest of it, what you have essentially is a nation divided between white people and everybody else in broad strokes. When you look at the groups that overwhelmingly favor the Democrats right now, the Asians, the Hispanics, the African-Americans, the Muslims, you see a nation where people have largely chosen up sides and if you strip away everything else, what you are going to find is a racial divide. It\u2019s biggest, unaddressed issue.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Rivera finally relented and charged that Obama had failed to confront race relations head-on as the first African-American president. \u201cIf I was this president,\u201d the Fox News personality offered, \u201cI would have said \u2018I\u2019m going to deal with this race. I\u2019m going to deal with the legacy of the Civil War. The Civil War is over. The North\/South divide \u2014 I would have made that the central focus of my president were I him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe failed utterly,\u201d Rivera concluded, and by \u201cbenign neglect made it worse.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As I have noted many times before, Barack Obama&#8217;s public personae is all about avoiding to appear the &#8220;Angry Black Man&#8221;, and as such he has studiously attempted to avoid facing racial issues.<\/p>\n<p>Still, agreeing with Geraldo?<\/p>\n<p>I feel so dirty.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Fox News, he has stated thatthe reaction to Barack Obama&#8217;s presidency shows that the nation was not ready for a black man in the White House.
