Joking about what a loon Mel Gibson is hardly rare in Hollywood circles, but Gervais decided to do it just as he was introducing him.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cA few years ago I made a joke about Mel Gibson getting a bit drunk and saying a few unsavory things,\u201d Gervais said. \u201cWe\u2019ve all done it. I wasn\u2019t judging him, but now I find myself in the awkward position to introduce him again. Listen I\u2019m sure its embarrassing for both of us and I blame NBC for this terrible situation, Mel blames \u2026 well we know who Mel blames.\u201d That\u2019s right, Gervais was clearly calling out Gibson\u2019s history of anti-semitism.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cListen, I still feel bad about it,\u201d Gervais continued. \u201cMel\u2019s forgotten all about it. That\u2019s what drinking does. <b><span style=\"font-size: 100%; font-variant: small-caps;\">I want to say something nice about Mel before he comes out: I\u2019d rather have a drink with him in his hotel tonight than Bill Cosby.\u201d<br \/><\/span><\/b><\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\">When Gibson came out, it wasn\u2019t clear if the two were going to embrace or start throwing punches.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cI love seeing Ricky every three years because it reminds me to get a colonoscopy,\u201d Gibson offered.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One reason I don&#8217;t watch awards shows is because 95% of the time they are boring as sh%$ to me.<\/p>\n<p>The other 5% of the time, I see evidence of how they are wittier than I will <b>ever<\/b> be, and it&#8217;s depressing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Withess this exchange with Mel Gibson at the Golden Globe Awards: Ricky Gervais keeps pushing.
