{"id":182061,"date":"2016-01-05T20:56:00","date_gmt":"2016-01-06T01:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2016\/01\/05\/and-now-even-the-rich-people-are-throwing-rahm-emanuel-under-the-bus\/"},"modified":"2016-01-05T20:56:00","modified_gmt":"2016-01-06T01:56:00","slug":"and-now-even-the-rich-people-are-throwing-rahm-emanuel-under-the-bus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2016\/01\/05\/and-now-even-the-rich-people-are-throwing-rahm-emanuel-under-the-bus\/","title":{"rendered":"And Now, Even the Rich People are Throwing Rahm Emanuel Under the Bus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since emails came out <a href=\"http:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/news-chicago\/7\/71\/1220707\/emails-show-city-halls-struggle-quell-laquan-mcdonald-crisis\">revealing the Rahm Emanuel administrations aggressive efforts to manage and suppress information on the Laquan McDonald shooting<\/a>, Rahm&#8217;s old friends, basically rich corrupt people from whom he has raised money from over the years, have been avoiding him like the plague.<\/p>\n<p>One of his very good friends, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagomag.com\/Chicago-Magazine\/Felsenthal-Files\/October-2013\/Rahm-Rauner\/\">they have vacationed together and Rauner was a former client of Emanuel&#8217;s<\/a>, was wingnut, gazillionaire, and now Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner how has announced that he would <a href=\"http:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/news\/7\/71\/1225492\/rauner-endorses-recall-legislation-disappointed-rahm\">sign a bill allowing for a recall vote for the Chicago Mayor<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Fresh from a Saharan Desert holiday where he says he and his family rode camels and slept in tents, Gov. Bruce Rauner did nothing Monday to quell the shifting sands beneath Mayor Rahm Emanuel.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Rauner told reporters he would sign a bill allowing Chicago voters to recall their mayor from office if it reaches his desk.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">The governor also said he was \u201cvery disappointed\u201d in Emanuel and Cook County State\u2019s Attorney Anita Alvarez over their handling of Chicago police misconduct cases.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Asked about state Rep. La Shawn Ford\u2019s legislation that would allow Chicago voters to attempt recall the mayor, Rauner said he hasn\u2019t studied the bill but based on what he\u2019s been told about it, \u201cI would sign that bill.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">The governor went on to say that he would also be \u201cbroadly supportive of the recall concept in general for all elected officials in the state. \u2026 That would be the best bill to pass.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>6 months ago, I would not have predicted the degree to which his power base, once thought to be unassailable, to have collapsed like this.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s gone from a crazy guy on the street corner rant to an implosion in a very short time.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, it appears that people appointed after the sh%$ hit the fan have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbez.org\/news\/agency-probes-police-shootings-reaches-out-fired-investigator-114382\">absolutely no interest whatsoever in having his back<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">The new chief of the agency that looks into shootings by Chicago police officers says she wants to hear out an investigator who was fired by her predecessor last July after refusing orders to change findings that the cops were at fault in several cases.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Sharon Fairley, acting chief administrator of the Independent Police Review Authority, last month reached out to the investigator, Lorenzo Davis, a former Chicago police commander.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cI\u2019d like to hear about his side of what happened,\u201d Fairley said at a news conference Monday afternoon. \u201cI look forward to that conversation and I think that that will be happening soon.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Davis\u2019s lawyer, Torreya Hamilton, said an attorney with the city\u2019s Law Department called two weeks ago to set up the meeting. Hamilton said Davis, who is suing the city for wrongful termination, is eager to meet with Fairley. The sides have not yet set a time and place.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Fairley, a former federal prosecutor appointed a month ago by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, said she also wants to examine the work that got Davis fired.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">WBEZ revealed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbez.org\/news\/city-fires-investigator-who-found-cops-fault-shootings-112423\">Davis\u2019s termination and his resistance to orders by IPRA superiors<\/a> that he change findings about at least a dozen incidents, all shootings or alleged excessive-force cases.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Davis said Monday evening he would welcome Fairley\u2019s review of his findings. \u201cI\u2019d like to be present when she does it,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s better to review a report with the person who wrote it.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Fairley\u2019s predecessor, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbez.org\/news\/chicago-police-review-board-leader-resigns-114064\">Scott M. Ando, was forced out as IPRA\u2019s chief administrator<\/a> after heading the agency since 2013. Ando, a former U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent, filled several key IPRA posts with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbez.org\/news\/who-polices-police-chicago-its-increasingly-ex-cops-111194\">former sworn law-enforcement officers<\/a>, including two other former DEA agents, a WBEZ investigation found.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Fairley did not directly criticize Ando\u2019s hiring but said the agency needs \u201cstronger independence.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cI was a prosecutor for eight years, where my job was to collect evidence and then make the call,\u201d said Fairley, who worked at the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office in Chicago. \u201cThat\u2019s what I\u2019m planning on doing here.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Fairley also insisted she is independent from Emanuel despite a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbez.org\/news\/chicago-releases-thousands-emails-fatal-police-shooting-114334\">pile of email messages<\/a> that<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.wbez.org\/programs\/here-and-now\/2016-01-04\/emails-show-chicago-mayor%25E2%2580%2599s-office-police-and-investigators&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjpjpaeqpPKAhVG7SYKHV0jAZ8QFggFMAA&amp;client=internal-uds-cse&amp;usg=AFQjCNFEnDPq3XM6hXIMIWLl7yfJeiyDTg\"> show coordination<\/a> between his aides and IPRA in recent years.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cYes, I\u2019m in communication with the mayor\u2019s office,\u201d Fairley said. \u201cThey\u2019ve been very helpful in helping me get situated here but they have not tried to direct my activities or tell me what to do.
