{"id":182270,"date":"2015-11-04T19:24:00","date_gmt":"2015-11-05T00:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2015\/11\/04\/heh-2\/"},"modified":"2015-11-04T19:24:00","modified_gmt":"2015-11-05T00:24:00","slug":"heh-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2015\/11\/04\/heh-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Heh."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Obama has just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/11\/04\/us\/politics\/obama-wont-yield-to-companys-bid-to-delay-keystone-pipeline-decision.html\">told TransCanada &#8220;No Backsies&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s about bloody time:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">The White House on Tuesday said President Obama had no intention of bowing to a request from the company behind the Keystone XL oil pipeline to delay a decision on the project, saying he wanted to take action before his tenure ends.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">The State Department is reviewing a request made on Monday by the company, TransCanada, to pause its yearslong evaluation of the proposed 1,179-mile pipeline, which has become part of a broader debate over Mr. Obama\u2019s environmental agenda.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Josh Earnest, the White House press secretary, said on Tuesday that \u201cthere\u2019s reason to suspect that there may be politics at play\u201d in TransCanada\u2019s request. He strongly suggested that the review, which has been widely expected to result in a rejection of the pipeline as soon as this month, remained on track.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">\u201cGiven how long it\u2019s taken, it seems unusual to me to suggest that somehow it should be paused yet again,\u201d Mr. Earnest said about the evaluation at the State Department, which reviews proposed cross-border projects that require a presidential permit. The president, Mr. Earnest added, \u201cwould like to have this determination be completed before he leaves office.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\">Environmental protection advocates say Mr. Obama is poised to reject the pipeline project in large part to make a bold statement about his commitment to curb climate change in advance of a United Nations summit meeting in Paris.
