They Can Work, I Don&#8217;t Care If They Are Dead!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"border: 1px solid black; float: right; margin: 0px 10px; padding: 5px; text-align: center; width: 360px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"197\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Jdf5EXo6I68?rel=0\" width=\"350\"><\/iframe><br \/><i>The Tories Must Be Channeling Monty Python and the Holy Grail<\/i><\/div>\n<p>A study by the Department for Work and Pensions in the UK has revealed that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2015\/aug\/27\/thousands-died-after-fit-for-work-assessment-dwp-figures\">over 2,000 people died almost immediately after being declared being fit for work<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Tories have stopped even trying to pretend that they aren&#8217;t evil motherf%$#ers who glory in causing pain to the less fortunate:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/>Nearly 90 people a month are dying after being declared fit for work, according to new data that has prompted campaigners and Labour leadership contenders to call for an overhaul of the government\u2019s welfare regime. <\/p>\n<p>Statistics released by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) revealed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/statistics\/mortality-statistics-esa-ib-and-sda-claimants\">during the period December 2011 and February 2014 2,380 people died<\/a> after their claim for employment and support allowance (ESA) ended because a work capability assessment (WCA) found they were found fit for work. <\/p>\n<p>Ministers insisted that the data could not be used to link claimant deaths to its welfare reforms, but the figures focused attention on the government\u2019s fit-for-work assessment process, which has been dogged by controversy in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Anita Bellows, researcher with campaign group Disabled People Against the Cuts, said it would take time to fully analyse the figures, but added the group was \u201cvery worried by the number of people who died within two weeks of being found fit for work\u201d [see footnote]. <\/p>\n<p>Letters: If I can\u2019t decide which biscuits to buy, would you want me making decisions about how much morphine to give your mother? <\/p>\n<p>The mortality data was compiled in response to freedom of information requests, and was released by the department only following a ruling by the <a href=\"https:\/\/ico.org.uk\/media\/action-weve-taken\/decision-notices\/2015\/1424160\/fs_50557638.pdf\">Information Commissioner\u2019s Office<\/a> in April.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;But it gets even better:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">The WCA, currently administered by <a data-component=\"in-body-link\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2015\/jan\/18\/after-hated-atos-quits-will-maximus-make-work-assessments-less-arduous\">private outsourcing firm Maximus<\/a>, having for most of the last government been run by Atos, has been <a data-component=\"in-body-link\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2011\/feb\/23\/government-reform-disability-benefits\">widely criticised as error-prone and mechanistic<\/a>, often causing <a data-component=\"in-body-link\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2014\/feb\/25\/benefit-cuts-welfare-linked-mental-health\">harm to the sick and disabled claimants<\/a> who are obliged to undergo it. It has been dogged by <a data-component=\"in-body-link\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2015\/jan\/27\/delays-disability-benefit-pip-claimants-mps-scrutiny\">administrative delays<\/a>, which have often left claimants stressed and penniless, and there have been <a data-component=\"in-body-link\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/patrick-butler-cuts-blog\/2014\/jul\/24\/stuck-in-dwp-limbo-better-off-dead-mandatory-reconsideration\">hundreds of thousands of appeals<\/a> against fit-for-work decisions in recent years, about four in 10 of which have succeeded.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So, not only are they killing people, they are allowing their buddies in business to make a profit out of public money doing it.<\/p>\n<p>At the rate this is going, Dick Cheney is going to have to up his game, or people will begin to think that he is a bleeding heart liberal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Tories Must Be Channeling Monty Python and the Holy Grail A study by the Department for Work and Pensions in the UK has revealed that over 2,000 people died almost immediately after being declared being fit for work.
