{"id":182585,"date":"2015-08-03T19:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-08-04T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2015\/08\/03\/your-evening-schadenfreude\/"},"modified":"2015-08-03T19:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-08-04T00:00:00","slug":"your-evening-schadenfreude","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panix.com\/~msaroff\/40years\/2015\/08\/03\/your-evening-schadenfreude\/","title":{"rendered":"Your Evening Schadenfreude"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"border: 1px solid black; float: right; margin: 0px 10px; padding: 5px; text-align: center; width: 260px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/Rb8kEqx.jpg\" rel=\"lytebox\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" bordercolor=\"white\" src=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/Rb8kEqx.jpg\" width=\"250\" \/><\/a><br \/><i>This is the skeeviest mugshot that I&#8217;ve seen in a <b><span style=\"font-size: 100%; font-variant: small-caps;\">Long<\/span><\/b> time<\/i><\/div>\n<p>Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton <a href=\"http:\/\/www.statesman.com\/news\/news\/ken-paxton-booking-could-be-delayed-report-says\/nnB2S\/\">has been indicted on multiple counts of fraud and financial shenanigans<\/a>, some of which carry the possibility of life in prison:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: blue;\">Facing three felony counts of securities law violations, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was arrested, fingerprinted and photographed Monday morning for alleged violations that took place when he was a state legislator.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Indicted by a Collin County grand jury last week, Paxton surrendered at the county jail in his hometown of McKinney, avoiding assembled reporters by entering through a side door.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">The grand jury indictments against Paxton, unsealed shortly after noon, revealed that two first-degree fraud charges were based on Paxton\u2019s efforts in July 2011 \u2014 when he was a member of the Texas House \u2014 to sell stock on behalf of Servergy Inc., a privately held, McKinney-based tech company.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">According to the indictments, Paxton failed to tell stock buyers \u2014 including state Rep. Byron Cook, R-Corsicana, and Florida businessman Joel Hochberg, who each purchased more than $100,000 in Servergy stock and were listed as complainants on the fraud charges \u2014 that he had been compensated with 100,000 shares of Servergy. Paxton also said he was an investor in Servergy when he had not invested his own money in the company, the charges indicated.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: blue;\"><br \/><\/span> <span style=\"color: blue;\">Paxton encouraged investors to put more than $600,000 into Servergy, special prosecutor Kent Schaffer told The New York Times last week.
